Even If An Angel of Light...... : Reflections on Brian McLaren & Generous Orthodoxy - Part II

In my previous post I mentioned some of the things in McLaren's book with which I agreed.  In this post I shall broaden that list.

When McLaren speaks of "discipleship" and with some of the conceptions and practices that we Christians have evolved into over the years, he has some very useful and penetrating things to say.   His provocative chapter title "Would Jesus Be a Christian?" sets the tone for discussing the end products of our discipleship and how they may be somewhat foreign to that which Jesus would accept.  If we are known by our fruits, and we call our fruits "Christians", the question is - "Would Jesus identify with those fruits"?  It's a good question and one that deserves to be explored.

It's been a very tough four months but I recently managed a two week vacation.

As is often the case with vacations, I had to work at finding some time to relax but I did, in fact, shoe horn in a couple of mornings here and there. During those times I was able to reflect on McLaren's book ("A Generous Orthodoxy:...") which I had just finished and did jot down some notes.
What I hope to do is give some impressions and some analysis of just what came across to me in this particular work. I have not read his other writings and am not particularly versed in the emergent church movement so some of my impressions, pro or con, may be wrong.

But, under this heading - "Even if an Angel..." from Gal. 1, I will share a bit of what I gleaned.

First of all - lest any be dubious that I might give him a fair hearing - I will say that there are many "major" headings of McLaren's thought with which I firmly agree.
